FoxSports and NASCAR apparently have no clue who comprises their television demographic; either that, or they do not care! It does not take a degree in psychology or economics to know that a gopher cartoon would target an audience no older than 10 years of age. So WHY on God's green earth does Fox and NASCAR pester, irritate and clutter my beautiful HD big screen with some cartoon character named Digger? This past week at Fontana I even met Digger's family!! Oh my!! And Digger even has his own special track-view camera. Who is this Digger, why should I care, and as far as I can tell, he is NOT a corporate logo of anything significant like the AFLAC duck. So WTF?

I lasted all of 25 laps of this Digger irritation and nonsense before I lost my cool. I immediately went online to FoxSports and fired off a VERY nasty email to the powers that be; not a note in the forums (where it would have been buried) but a true email. I even received a robo acknowledgment of my email. How sweet. The point is, I am livid!!!

Regardless of who NASCAR "thinks" their audience is (southern rednecks would be the stereotype I guess, according to a friend), I am highly insulted to the "dumbing down" of NASCAR racing. This sport is no longer a poor man's Saturday night dirt-track special anymore!! Corporate sponsorships with very deep pockets are needed just to keep one car racing for a full season. As for a fan who would want to enjoy even one weekend at a track (as I did at Bristol), one must be able to kiss off at least a grand for a pair of tickets, motel and travel for the full weekend. Sorry, Fox........we aren't the typical southern good ol' boys that would cotton to your Digger character!!

NASCAR and FoxSports fans are more intelligent and sophisticated than given credit!! We deserve respect, for without it, both of these entities cease to exist!!! Digger needs to go.....and any other stupid, meaningless replacement they deem worthy to be his under-study. We deserve better.

I used to love Fox Broadcasting better than NBC when it came to racing; that is no longer the case. I can hardly wait for July.
