Truex Takes Pole for Daytona 500: Martin Takes Outside Pole

Sunday Sprint Cup qualifying set the front row for the 2009 Daytona 500 with Martin Truex securing the coveted pole position and Mark Martin being bumped over to the outside pole. These two positions are the only ones set prior to the running of the Gatorade Duel races that will be run on Thursday, February 12th.

The Daytona 500 uses a different qualifying procedure from any other race in the world to set the racing field. The Gatorade Duel is two 150-mile races used to determine the starting lineup for the Daytona 500. As confirmed pole sitter, Truex will serve as pole sitter for the first of the Duel races while Mark Martin will serve as pole sitter for the 2nd race. Following time trials early this week, final positions will be set; the maximum number of drivers allowed between the two races is capped at 66.
